Apple Pie Baking contest
Do you enjoy baking? Is apple pie one of your favorite desserts? Then why not join others just like you who love a warm, delicious apple pie made from scratch, by participating in the Apple Pie Baking Contest! Marker-Miller Orchards Farm Market and Bakery and MidAtlantic Farm Credit in conjunction with the 86th Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival® will be sponsoring the 11th Annual Apple Pie Baking Contest. We are looking for the best homemade apple pie. Nothing is as comforting, as nostalgic, or as “a-peeling” as a freshly baked apple pie and how appropriate during the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival.
Once again “peel your apples” will be heard on Thursday, May 2, at Marker-Miller Orchards Farm Market and Bakery, 3035 Cedar Creek Grade in Winchester. The contest will start at 9 a.m. and pies must be in the oven no later than 10 a.m. with judging starting at noon. Spectators and family members are welcome to observe and show support to the contestants.
Contestants must bring all ingredients for the crust as well as apples measured and ready to use, all utensils, and a clear glass 9-inch pie plate. Pies will be judged on crust and fillings. A score sheet will be given with every application.
Prizes for the adult category (ages 17 and older) will be $75 for first place and $50 for second place. There is a youth category for ages 16 and under with prizes of $50 for first place and $25 for second place.
The winners of this contest will ride in the Firefighters’ Parade and the Grand Feature Parade of the 86th Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival®.
Interested participants may contact Marker-Miller Orchards Farm Market and Bakery at 540-662-1391 or stop by the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival Headquarters, 135 North Cameron Street, for more information and for an application. The deadline for applications is April 26, 2013. Please limit three contestants per family. The first twenty applications will be accepted due to limited oven space and judging time.
