This year's gues speaker will be Mark Moseley; Director of Franchise Development for the fastest growing restaurant chain in the country in 2009; football legend on a national scale; proud father of 9 children, Mark will be presenting “Success in Business, Sports and Life by Mark D. Moseley.”

Mark MoseleyMark DeWayne Moseley was born in Laneville, Texas, on March 12th, 1948. After graduating from high school in Livingston, Texas, he attended Stephen F. Austin University and Texas A&M. He entered the Professional Draft in 1970; and, was picked by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 14th Round. After only one season in Philadelphia, he moved back to Texas for a short, two-season stay with the Houston Oilers in 1971 and 1972. Then, the proverbial stars aligned themselves when he made his celebrated move to the Washington Redskins in 1974. He played with the Redskins from 1974 to 1986; and, was famous not only for his excellence of play; but also for the fact that he was basically the last “straight-on” [not soccer style] kicker in the NFL. In the 1960s, the famous Hungarian brothers, Pete and Charlie Gogolak, introduced soccer style kicking to the NFL; and, as it became increasingly popular, straight-on kickers faded from the scene until only Moseley remained.

Moseley remained because he was very good at what he did. In 1982, Moseley won the NFL’s coveted Most Valuable Player Award, the only place-kicker in history to win the award. He was an All-Pro Selection four times. In 1983, he set an NFL single-season scoring record of 161 points. He led the NFL in scoring four separate seasons, which placed him sixth on the all-time scoring list at that time. He finished his career with the Redskins with 1,207 points and remains the Redskins’ all-time scoring leader. For his career, he made 300 out of 457 field goal attempts [65%]; 482 out of 512 extra point attempts [94%]; and, scored a total of 1,382 points. He was voted one of the 70 Greatest Redskins in team history. Mark retired from professional football in 1987 and became a full-time businessman. After gaining a great deal of experience in commercial real estate, he used his marketing skills to launch his own business enterprises. He developed and sold Mark Moseley’s Travel; and, Mark Moseley’s Famous Fries. He is currently the Director of Franchise Development and owns franchises for Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries. Mark also devotes much of his time to a wide variety of charitable interests; and, his 9 children and 8 grandchildren attest to his role as a family man.
