Building Stronger Communities Through
Citizenship and Respect – I have worked with hundreds of middle school
age students to help them define and understand the importance of developing
positive character traits and personal ethics. Working with the schools’ guidance
departments, I have been able to present programs that focus on the Character
Counts pillars of Respect and Citizenship. My presentations discuss the
importance of personal respect, healthy lifestyles and anti-bullying
behavior. I include my personal experiences regarding the events of 4/16
at Virginia Tech. I believe that volunteer service is an essential part
of citizenship and I am proud to have donated hundreds of hours to community
service and have participated in radio and television Public Service
Announcements. I will continue this work and my goal to demonstrate caring
and compassion for people as I work to educate and advocate for programs
that help motivate citizens to reach their fullest potential.

Outstanding Volunteer Service by the Tiger Woods Foundation and the Target
Corporation; Recipient of Frank Alan Pollard II Quality of Life Award
for Community Service in 2006 & 2007; Served on the Botetourt County
Executive Board as Publicity Chairperson and volunteer for Relay For
Life. I have contributed hundreds of volunteer hours to local programs
including the American Cancer Society, Voice of the Blue Ridge, CMN,
RMH, SPCA, local nursing homes and church mission projects.
Family:
Father is a residential builder. Mother is a professor at Virginia Tech.
A step-brother, Dale Beard, Jr. is 22 years old and Genevieve VanDuyne
is a half’sister
age 15.
Career Ambition:
I would like to work as the Public
Relations Director for a Virginia corporation.
