"Pretty In Pink" Breast Cancer Awareness

My platform "Pretty In Pink" Breast Cancer Awareness is very true and dear to my heart. Seeing first hand the affects cancer has on the patient and their family has changed my life forever. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer June 2009 at which time she had a double mastectomy with reconstruction surgery. You can imagine and think you know what a person is experiencing but it does not come to true light until you are a witness to this illness. The emotional affects are as traumatizing as the disease itself for some people. I plan to share my experiences with adults and teens to enlighten them and prepare them for the roller coaster they are about to begin.

My goal is to stress the importance of routine mammograms, prevention, early detection and positive mentality. I will educate teens on the warning signs and to start prevention at an early age by making healthy lifestyle choices. Advise them to educate themselves and be aware of their family's medical history.

A pink ribbon is the universal symbol of breast cancer awareness which symbolizes the best protection is early detection. The breast cancer "pink brand" identifies and ties together the fear of cancer, hope for early identification and successful treatment. The Miss Apple Blossom Outstanding Teen brand should not only be represented by words but most importantly by actions. Therefore, I intend to portray myself as the intellectual and talented young lady who has a passion for her platform and volunteering.
