Apple Blossom Festival
Square Dance
The Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival Square Dance will be held Saturday, May 4. This historic event attracts dancers from Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the Washington D.C. area. Nearby state conventions and festivals send representatives to join in the fun and also promote their events. During the dance, the Capitol Squares Exhibition Team of Washington D.C. will perform in honor of the traditional visit to the dance by the Apple Blossom Festival Queen and her Court. This Team represents the DC area at national and state conventions, as well as many weekend festivals.
Three area square dance clubs--the Apple Valley Squares of Winchester, the Panhandlers of Martinsburg, and the Rivermont Ramblers of Front Royal--promote, decorate, and co-host the dance for the Apple Blossom Festival. Nationally acclaimed callers Butch Adams from the Northern Virginia area and Matt Worley from Virginia Beach bring to us their own distinctive and innovative style of square dance calling. Winchester’s own Butch Bloxom, round dance teacher and cuer, will cue rounds that create a swirl of beauty on the dance floor.
The Apple Blossom Queen and her Court are treated to a specially choreographed set of square dance calls for new dancers. They become part of the fun and energy that is showcased at this event. We all have a good time dancing together.
The dance will be held at the Virginia Avenue Charlotte DeHart Elementary School located at 550 Virginia Avenue. The dance level is announced plus and mainstream so that everyone can have a good time. Come on out and enjoy the healthy family pastime that has been defined as “Friendship Set to Music.” The dancing starts with pre-rounds at 7 p.m. and 2x2’s from 8 until 10:30, ending with a diehard from 10:30 until 11. See you on the dance floor.
