For more than a century, the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival® and John Handley High School have shared a special connection rooted in community, tradition and celebration.
Since the Festival’s inception in 1924, the John Handley High School campus has served as the setting for numerous Festival-sponsored events. From the crowning of Queen Shenandoah during the Festival’s Coronation ceremony on the historic school steps to the spectacular community fireworks display that illuminates the Winchester sky, John Handley High School and Winchester Public Schools have remained steadfast partners in the Festival’s annual celebration.
Continuing that longstanding partnership, the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival recently contributed $4,000 to the Winchester Education Foundation’s Community Comfort Campaign, an initiative to replace the aging seats and carpeting in the historic Patsy Cline Theater at John Handley High School.
The Festival’s contribution will support the purchase of a row of theater seats named in honor of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival®, helping preserve and enhance a venue that has served generations of students, families, performers and community members.
“The Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival is proud to support the Winchester Education Foundation and this important campaign,” said Bridget Aikens, President of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. “On behalf of the Festival, we are excited to continue our longstanding relationship with John Handley High School and Winchester Public Schools. For more than a century, Handley has been an important part of the Festival’s history, and we are proud to help ensure this special community venue remains a vibrant part of Winchester for generations to come.”
The Festival’s support of the Patsy Cline Theater campaign is part of its ongoing commitment to giving back to the community. In 2026 alone, the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival contributed nearly $71,000 to local charities, organizations and community initiatives.
“The Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival’s storied history is closely tied to the Patsy Cline Theater,” said Larry Weiss, Executive Director of the Winchester Education Foundation. “The Winchester Education Foundation is grateful to the Festival’s Board of Directors for recognizing the theater’s special role in bringing our community together. Their support of our Community Comfort Campaign through the purchase of a row of seats named for the Festival will help us replace the theater’s seating and carpet throughout the Patsy Cline Theater.”
